"You've Never Had it So Good!" Really? Really??

"You've Never Had It So Good!"  For students of modern history that quote from British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan (yes, he was a Conservative Prime Minister) describing the state of the British economy in the late 1950s could be attributed to today's Democrat candidates for Madison Borough Council. Direct Mailings, Press Releases, Letters to the Editor of the Eagle all focus on the tremendous good the Democrats have done for the Community. The overarching message to the residents of Madison seems to be "You've never had it so good." But is that accurate? Let's review things:

During their time in office the Democrats have:

  • Allowed the physical appearance of our historic Downtown to deteriorate
  • Spent $66,000 for an independent Downtown Study which contained findings and recommendations that have been known to us through five previous studies
  • Wasted six years by dawdling to enact recommendations to improve Downtown and make it easier for new businesses to open and to attract more visitors. Hence, the vacant storefronts.
  • Caused a rift in the harmonious fabric of the community by foisting a needless Welcoming Community Resolution on us all (good thing Resolutions expire after one year)
  • Continued a budget charade by maintaining high electric utility rates on the consumer ("Yes, but it keeps our property taxes low and gives the non-profits the opportunity to contribute to the cost of maintaining our infrastructure!") and then tries to dazzle us with their munificence by returning some of our money with a puny "dividend."
  • Overseen the loss of the Movie Theater and the over-development of the former Green Village School property.

And yet, they still want to take credit for ideas and improvements that they opposed, including the Madison Recreation Complex.

So, is this as good as it gets?

If you don't think so, please vote on November 7 for the team of Hendrickson and Schreiber. Together they will bring balance, transparency and fresh perspective to the Borough Council.
