The members of the Madison Republican Committee are horrified and heartbroken by the assassination attempt on President Trump and the loss of life of a supporter at his campaign rally.
In order for our constitutional republic to sustain and thrive - members of society must be free to seek elected office and be kept safe when participating in the democratic process. The events of July 13 are the gravest and most existential threat to the Union in our lifetimes.
Furthermore, we believe, strongly, that words matter. As such, we call upon national leaders, political candidates and the media to refrain from decisive and destructive hyperbole, which can have dangerous ramifications. We must lower the temperature and do our part to choose kindness.
We pray for unity and renewed civility in our country.
We also pray for the health and continued safety of President Trump, and enthusiastically look forward to his return to the White House in 2025.
