As they wrap up their campaign, Republican candidates for Madison Borough Council, Kathy Dailey and Mark Chiarolanza reiterated their desire to “Focus on Madison’s Future.”

“We started walking Madison’s neighborhoods before the primary election, so we have been meeting and speaking with voters since May.  We have discussed all kinds of concerns and hopes with the neighbors we have met, and we understand what they would like the Borough Council to accomplish over the next three years.  Residents agree that the areas we pledge to address are critical to shaping the future of Madison,” the candidates stated.

“Talking to residents, we found that they were eager for us to tackle the following, if elected:

  • Protecting Property Values in Madison - We will set priorities that will ensure Madison remains an attractive choice for businesses and potential residents from outside, while also providing a great experience for the people who live and work here. We will employ responsible stewardship in our management of borough resources and taxpayer funds.
  • Addressing local traffic congestion -  Our goal is to improve public safety for pedestrians, drivers, bicyclists, and everyone who uses our roads and sidewalks, and to improve the overall transport experience.  We support the introduction of a small-scale public transportation option within the borough to address our growing traffic problem, as well as increased use of technology to address traffic congestion and a dedicated traffic unit within the Madison Police Department.
  • Manage the Pace and Impact of Land Development - We will partner with our neighboring municipalities and county for regionally-focused planning that extends to land use and transportation.  We need greater regional cooperation to preserve our quality of life while ensuring that Madison has the flexibility to attract new and existing business sectors that will be growing in the coming decade.
  • Ensure Security for the People of Madison - We will support every borough department and the Board of Education as they identify improvements that enhance security of Madison's public spaces, infrastructure, municipal resources, and most importantly, the people of Madison.
  • Maintain Madison's infrastructure - We pledge to support the public works and engineering departments in their efforts to plan ahead for necessary maintenance and repair of not only our roads, but also our critical infrastructure: water, sewer and power.

Both candidates have significant professional managerial experience, and they emphasize that this experience makes them well suited for the work of the Borough Council and will enable them to make informed decisions for Madison.  “Kathy’s experience working in the private sector complements my experience in public service.  We both manage people and projects in our work life, and we are also committed community volunteers,” commented Mark.

Dailey, who is the Senior Manager of Legal Operations at Bevan, Mosca & Giuditta in Basking Ridge, has emphasized that her professional and educational background are in operations management.  She holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Science degree from Stevens Institute of Technology and works in the law firm’s public utility practice area.  Her work includes preparation for mergers and acquisitions and routinely supports major financial transactions.

Chiarolanza, a Lieutenant in the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, currently serves as Division Commander of the Legal Services Division.   Over his 22 years of service, he has held leadership positions in many areas of law enforcement operations and undercover law enforcement operations. In his current role, Mr. Chiarolanza oversees the service of civil process and all foreclosure actions handled by the Sheriff’s Office. He holds undergraduate degrees from Erie Community College and Buffalo University, and a MPA from Kean University.

“In addition to our professional experience, Mark and I are also dedicated community volunteers who love our hometown of Madison,” added Dailey.

We have spent the last several months outlining a positive, serious plan for the future.  With the support of the community next Tuesday, November 6, we hope to have the opportunity to start implementing these plans starting January 1.  We respectfully ask for your vote on November 6 so that we can be your voice at the council table.”
