Statement from Madison Borough Councilman Patrick Rowe:
I have been honored to serve the community the past five years on council, and prior to that, for over nine years as a member of the Board of Education.
During my two terms we have been able to deliver budgets that increased the tax rate an average of less than one percent per year, and have cut electric rates by over four millions dollars, something I have championed since I first ran for office in 2013. This has lowered the cost being a taxpayer or renter in Madison significantly.
At the same time we have significantly increased our investment in maintaining our infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on the critical services we deliver - water, electric and sewers.
We have several major areas to address the next three years including, containing costs, resolving our affordable housing obligation, and determining how to support the continued success of our downtown over the next decade.
Because of my years of public service and private sector experience managing large groups and budgets, I believe I have demonstrated the ability to address all of the above and ask for everyone’s support this year as I seek re-election to council.
I am also excited to be running with Kathy Dailey, whose work in the community, professional experience and commitment to serving all of Madison will make her a great addition to our borough council. We look forward to meeting residents as we campaign together.
Statement from Kathy Dailey:
I am very grateful to the Madison friends and neighbors who have asked me to enter the 2019 race for Madison Borough Council. Although many folks in town have already known me for years, I look forward to introducing myself to more Madisonians as I hit the campaign trail beginning today. As one of the very few Madison residents who actually attends our Madison Borough Council meetings on a regular basis, I understand the issues that our governing body needs to address and the constraints that we need to work within. Although I voice my opinion to our Borough Council representatives whenever I see the need, I would like to take an active role in the governance of our borough and use my professional and personal skills and experience to benefit the people of Madison.
On a personal level, I am a wife, mother, and community volunteer. I dedicate much of my time and talent to my family, the youth of the Madison area, and social justice causes, both local and global. Professionally, I have extensive experience in legal matters and work as Senior Manager of Legal Operations at a mid-size law firm in Somerset County, routinely supporting clients' needs for government affairs work, lobbying and advocacy efforts, litigation, contract negotiation, legal research, and regulatory compliance. I work on mergers and acquisitions for some of our largest clients, and have provided support for major financial transactions, including several worth hundreds of millions of dollars or more. I look forward to using this valuable background and experience in service of my Madison neighbors as a member of our Borough Council.
I am especially pleased to be running alongside Councilman Patrick Rowe, who is seeking re-election this year. Pat has been a responsible steward of Madison's resources for many years, and he understands the operations and finances of our borough better than anyone. He's been a mentor and friend to me for the past few years, and I look forward to learning even more from him as we campaign together between now and November.
